Tunisia's Consumer Protection Law No. 92-117 of 7 December 1992 (50 articles), published in the Official Journal (JORT) No. 83 of 15 December 1992, sets the general rules on product safety, fair economic transactions and consumer protection (Article 1). The Ministry of Commerce summarises it as four core duties: safety, fair dealing, information and warranty.

Products must not harm consumers' health, and the supplier or first person placing a product on the market must check that it complies with the rules in force (Article 3); Articles 4 to 6 cover product conformity and the information owed to consumers. Misleading advertising is prohibited (Article 13). Articles 17 and 18 set the warranty, and any clause waiving it is void.

Inspections are carried out by judicial police officers, economic control inspectors, sworn agents of the health and agriculture ministries and municipal agents (Article 21), who can inspect, take samples and seize goods (Articles 22 to 27). Article 32 sets fines of TND 1,000 to 20,000 and/or 16 days to 3 months' imprisonment; other offences carry fines from TND 500 (Article 33), doubled where products are harmful to health (Article 34), and penalties are doubled for repeat offences (Article 38).

No law amending Law 92-117 has been found. Related laws include Law No. 40 of 1998 on sales methods and commercial advertising, Law No. 83 of 2000 on electronic exchanges and commerce, Law No. 70 of 2008 creating the National Institute of Consumption, and Law No. 25 of 2019 on the safety of foodstuffs and animal feed. Technical standards are a separate regime under the National Standardisation System Law (INNORPI).

Pending: a bill proposal to regulate marketing and promotion on websites and social media (49 articles) is under examination by a parliamentary committee; it has not been enacted.
