Jordan Standards and Metrology Law — Law No. 22 of 2000

Jordan's product-safety and technical-regulation regime rests on the Standards and Metrology Law No. 22 of 2000, published in the Official Gazette No. 4426 (16 April 2000, p. 1492). It repealed the earlier Law No. 15 of 1994 in full (Article 34: "The Standards and Metrology Law No. 15 for the Year 1994 is cancelled") and has itself since been amended, including by Law No. 38 of 2015. It confirms the Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) — whose institutional lineage traces to a Ministry of Industry and Trade directorate from 1972, formalized as an autonomous public body from 1995 — as the sole authority in Jordan for standards, metrology, and the Jordanian Quality Mark. JSMO issues mandatory technical regulations and conformity requirements (JSMO/safety approval, including licensing to use the Jordanian Quality Mark) for regulated product categories entering the Jordanian market, distinct from and complementary to the general consumer-protection obligations in Law No. 7 of 2017.
