Egypt's core consumer-protection framework is Law No. 181 of 2018, ratified 18 September 2018 and in force since 14 December 2018, repealing the earlier Law No. 67 of 2006. It protects consumers from unsafe products and misleading advertising, sets obligations for suppliers, advertisers, and service providers, and guarantees consumers' rights to health, safety, accurate information, and redress — including coverage of e-commerce and real-estate transactions. The law is administered by the Consumer Protection Agency, an independent body established to receive complaints and enforce compliance. Executive Regulations detailing procedures were published on 2 April 2019. Egypt's separate product-quality/standardisation regime — behind vertical-specific technical regulations such as electrical-appliance or cosmetics standards — sits with the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS); see the EOS reference.
