Algeria Consumer Protection Law — Law No. 09-03 of 2009

AlgeriaCitation: Loi n° 09-03 du 25 février 2009 (amended by Loi n° 18-09 of 2018)Last verified: 2026-08-29

Algeria's core consumer-protection and anti-fraud framework is a single instrument: Law No. 09-03 of 25 February 2009 on consumer protection and fraud suppression, published in the Journal Officiel No. 15 (8 March 2009) and amended by Law No. 18-09 of 10 June 2018. It covers product quantity accuracy, validity/expiry dating, and penalties (including imprisonment and fines) for deceiving or attempting to deceive consumers about product quantity, delivering different products than agreed, or misrepresenting expiry dates. Enforcement sits with the Ministry of Commerce's fraud-repression services (which also run the general product-safety alert system). Algeria's separate technical-standardisation regime, administered by IANOR, sits in a distinct instrument — see the Normalisation Law reference.
